The number of properties which carried out retrofitting works in Clare has more than tripled in the past twelve months.
The Sustainable Energy Authority of Irelands first quarterly report for 2023 shows a marked increase in grant applications nationwide under the National Retrofit plan.
The initiative aims to upgrade the equivalent of 500,000 homes to a Building Energy rating of B2 while installing 400,000 heat pumps in to replace older, less efficient heating systems by the end of 2030.
Presently 31% of homes in the Banner County posses a BER with a C grade, however this figure may be on course to fall as 242 properties here carried out domestic energy upgrades under the National Retrofit plan in the first quarter of the year.
This represents a landmark 322% on the 75 homeowners that carried out works under the plan here between January and March of 2022.
The uptake has been reflected nationwide and can be attributed to additional grant application options coming on stream in the intervening period.
The Sustainable Energy Authority Of Ireland processed 15,600 applications in total under four energy upgrade schemes in the first quarter and carried out retrofitting works at 9,946 successful properties, recording an overall expenditure of €56.4 million.
