Over €50,000 For Clare Community Biodiversity Action Plans

Over €50,000 in funding has been awarded to Community Biodiversity Action Plans in Clare.

The government investment worth almost €400,000 will support 11 projects in this county.

As part of the €370,090 investment, 78 community diversity projects nationwide will receive access to experts to assist them in either devising a Community Diversity Action Plan or implementing the measures set out in an existing one.

Killaloe Community Council, Parteen Town Team and Quin Tidy Towns and Development have each been given €5,000 for the creation of a Community Diversity Action Plan, while the Tuamgraney Development Association has been granted €4,000 for the same purpose.

A €6,000 sum has been awarded to Knocknahilla Biodiversity Comunity Group to support the model farm at Knocknahilla Peatland Rewetting Project.

€5,000 a piece will go to Kilnaboy Tidy Towns Group for a biodiversity enhancement project on the edge of Burren National Park, the Liscannor Bay Association for an assessment of coastal biodiversity in the bay, and Seafield Conservation Forum for the development and dissemination of a plan for Seafield Sand Dunes.

A further €6,000 has been allocated to Inagh Tidy Towns to implement its plan which focuses on bird nest boxes, invasive species treatment and mini orchard planting, while the same amount is going to Ruan Tidy Village for the training of relevant stakeholders such as farmers, Fás workers and a local school.

Ogonnelloe Exchange meanwhile has received €2,500 to improve the biodiversity of a large grass margin in the area.

The investment means the 11 Clare projects have received a total allocation of €54,500.
