A globally recognised academic believes a citizens assembly would help to ease tensions surrounding migration recently seen in Clare.
Demonstrations briefly escalated to the erection of a roadblock remain ongoing in Inch following the arrival of 34 Male International Protection Applicants to Magowna House last Monday.
A similar situtation is underway in Corofin, as a group of residents mantain what they’ve described as a ‘watching brief’ on the access road to a site, rumoured for use as Asylum Seeker accommodation.
Both groups feel their respective areas are too remote to cater for a significant population influx , however Professor of Political Science & Sociology at the University Of Galway, Pat Dolan says there is precedence for the resolution of similar disputes.
