Emergency Services Attend Fire At University Hospital Limerick

Emergency services attended a fire at the region’s main hospital this morning.

Limerick Fire and Rescue Service responded to the incident in the bathroom of an inpatient ward.

Staff at University Hospital Limerick were alerted to a fire in the bathroom of an inpatient ward at 6.40am this morning.

Patients were evacuated from six single rooms on the ward, which were affected by smoke.

Patients have been relocated to alternative wards, while the affected rooms are assessed and cleaned.

Members of Limerick Fire and Rescue Service attended the scene and brought the blaze under control.

No patients, staff or members of the public were harmed during the incident.

University Hospital Limerick is thanking all present for their co-operation, the staff on duty for their professionalism and the emergency services for their rapid response.
