Four people have been taken to safety, after their motorboat hit a rock in Lough Derg.

Shortly before midnight last night, the Lough Derg RNLI was launched to locate the 16 foot motorboat which was adrift in Scariff Bay.

RNLI volunteers used their RADAR to pinpoint the vessel’s exact location and a crew member used a search light to indicate to the casualties that the lifeboat had located them and was close by.

Lough Derg RNLI is advising all water users to ensure your vessel is equipped for nighttime navigation and that current navigation charts are kept on board.
