Clare’s Chief Fire Officer is asking the public to be mindful of the impact that tackling gorse fires has on the service’s resources.

This week, Clare Fire and Rescue Service were tasked with bringing a significant bog, gorse and forestry fire under control in the Kilcloher area.

The affected area spanned over 250 acres and required two brigades to be fully committed to putting on the blaze, with additional helicopter support also needed.

Chief Fire Officer, Adrian Kelly, says the personnel needed to tend to gorse fires means resources may not be available for other incidents such as house fires.
