Emergency Meeting Of West Clare Councillors Takes Place Over Packed Beaches

West and North Clare Councillors are holding talks this afternoon amid concern about the high volume of people attending the county’s coastal beaches.

Over the past two weekends, large crowds have been witnessed, particularly at beaches including Lahinch, Kilkee, Spanish Point and Doolin, leading to concerns from many living locally.

Clare County Council has been monitoring the situation alongside local authority staff, Gardaí and the civil defence, and the issue is also set to be raised during this afternoon’s monthly meeting of the local authority.

North Clare Fine Gael Councillor Joe Garrihy says most people have been doing their best to abide by social distancing guildelines, but he says a number of health and safety matters need to be considered.
