Staff at Element Six were left shell-shocked by this morning’s announcement by management at the plant in the Shannon Industrial Estates.
They had all received letters from the company requiring them to attend the briefing and while there was speculation on some redundancies, speaking to Clare Fm, many expressed their shock at the complete shutdown of manufacturing and distribution.
Staff also vented their anger over the redundancy package on offer and are vowing to fight it to get a better deal.
One clearly emotional worker said that "they had been put on part time and short time working hours while senior management not one of them took a pay cut, while staff had to renegotiate their mortgages, while another accused them of "milking the system".
Another man told Clare Fm that he and his fiancé were due to get married in two years time but now may have to put the whole thing off.
