Election Hopeful Calls For State-Backed Grants To Rejuvenate Old Commercial Properties

A Clare election candidate is calling for the establishment of a state-backed targeted programme to bring a new lease of life idle commercial properties in rural towns and villages.

Fine Gael’s Martin Conway says it’s been clear from his campaign trail that many of the county’s smaller urban centres have been badly hit by business closures.

He wants to see a funding initiative set up which would be financially backed by the government but operated at a local level, to turn these empty shop buildings into new, sustainable businesses or, in same cases, homes.
