Eirgrid says a new project at the Shannon Estuary the Mid-West's power grid will provide investment opportunites across the entire region.
As part of a 150 million euro investment, a cable will be placed along the bed of the River Shannon from Moneypoint, to boost power flow from Clare to Dublin, in a move which is the first of its kind in Europe.
A number of jobs will be created during the planning and construction phases of the project and a consultation process with local communities will take place over the coming months.
Eirgrid's Public Affairs Manager, Alan McHugh says the knock-on affect of the investment is hugely significant for the entire Mid-West.
