Three of the eleven people arrested as part of a major crackdown on illegal money lending in the Kilrush area have been released without charge.
The women were released from custody at around 11 o’clock last night, hours after they were arrested as part of Operation Pay Day.
Eight others – five men and three women – remain in custody at various Garda stations in Clare, Limerick and Galway, after they had their periods of detention extended last evening.
Meanwhile, following a major crackdown, the Clare branch of St. Vincent de Paul is appealing to people with money worries to seek their help.
Local President John Cullinane is encouraging people to borrow only from reputable institutions like local credit unions, but says St. Vincent de Paul can help them if they’ve got into difficulties with other lenders.
