Management at Shannon Airport are hopeful of more positive developments at the Airport, in light of its latest route announcemnet.
Stobart has confirmed it's returning to Shannon, eleven weeks after it pulled all of its services there.
Stobart Air had operated Aer Lingus Regional flights to Bristol, Birmingham and Edinburgh until the beginning of this year, when the flights were pulled.
At the time, the airline said Shannon did not fit with their strategic plan but less than three months later, there seems to have been a change of heart.
Stobart has confirmed that from June, it will operate a return service to Birmingham six times a week, again under the Aer Lingus Regional banner.
The move will see up to 45,000 additional passengers pass through the Airport in an announcement welcomed by Clare Fine Gael TD Pat Breen
Stobart had previously based aircraft at Shannon, but that won't be the case now.
In a statement, the company says today's announcement has been made possible by its reduced cost base though the Airport has insisted that its charges to airlines are competitve.
Patrick Edmund of Shannon Group has also confirmed that talks are ongoing to secure the return of the Edinburgh and Bristol routes, as well as others.
