Eight New Special Classes For Clare Schools From September

Eight new special education classes are to come on stream in Clare primary and post-primary schools in September.

It means there are now 55 special classes in the county’s mainstream schools and marks a 14 percent increase on the provision of these classes year-on-year.

13 of them are in secondary schools in Miltown Malbay, Ennis, Killaloe, Kildysart, Shannon and Kilrush, while the other 42 are located in primary schools across the county.

The new classes mainly focus on autism and autistic spectrum disorders, and follows a report from Trinity College earlier this year which revealed that Clare has just one special class for nearly 500 pupils in mainstream schools.
