Clare Primary School Chosen As Part Of Hot Meals Scheme

A Clare primary school has been chosen as part of a nationwide pilot scheme which will see hot meals provided to the pupils every day.

Ballycar National School, located on the outskirts of Newmarket-on-Fergus, is the former school of President Michael D. Higgins, and now one of 36 schools across the country picked to trial the programme.

Children will have a choice of two meals, with vegetarian and vegan options being provided.

Minister for Social Protection Regina Doherty says the programme aims to ensure that children get at least one hot meal in their daily life and it will be reviewed at the end of the year, to see if it could be rolled out more widely.
