Clare-Based Former INTO President Calls For Revision Of Capitation Grant Following Influx Of Ukrainian Refugees

The Clare-based former president of the Irish National Teacher’s Organisation is calling for the capitation grant for schools to be revised to reflect the increased student population following the arrival of Ukrainian refugees.

Currently primary schools receive €183 per pupil each year to cover running costs such as heating, lighting, cleaning, insurance and general up keep.

This year’s payment has been made based on enrollment figures from September, despite 348 Ukrainian refugees registering in Clare primary schools, the highest number in the country per head of population.
