The Mayor of Clare insists the winding down of Moneypoint Power Station amounts to “economic suicide” for West Clare.

Fianna Fáil’s Cathal Crowe has called on the Environment Minister Richard Bruton to retain all of the jobs there until a sustainable plan for Moneypoint’s future is found.

More than 100 jobs are set to be cut at the power station near Kilrush by October, reducing the workforce there to 86, but Councillor Crowe feels the government – as the majority shareholder in the ESB – should intervene.
