Rural Minister Will Pursue “All Available Options” To Support Villages Like Newmarket-On-Fergus

The Minister for Rural Development has committed to pursuing “all available options” to support villages like Newmarket-on-Fergus.

Michael Ring was responding to a query in the Dáil from Clare’s Independent TD, Dr Michael Harty, who raised a number of issues facing the village, following a meeting held on Monday evening.

The level of vacant properties there, a lack of local businesses, the continued GP vacancy and a lack of Garda presence have all been raised as worries for the locality.

In response, Minister Ring has insisted that he has provided grants to community group Obair in Newmarket already but that he will continue to support the village in any way possible:
