Numbers Claiming Unemployment Benefit In Clare Falls By 50% In Four Months

The number of people claiming some form of unemployment benefit in Clare has fallen by 50 percent in just four months.

New figures from the CSO reveal Live Register figures here are 10 percent below pre-pandemic levels, while the numbers in receipt of the PUP are also continuing to decrease.

4,228 people signed on at social welfare offices in this county last month, which is a slight increase on June’s figure.

However, it’s a significant drop from the 5,809 people on the Live Register in Clare in July of 2020 – a fall of more than 25 percent.

It’s also 10 percent less than the number of people in dole queues in July of 2019.

More than half of those on the Register in this county are signing on in Ennis’ social welfare office at 2,240.

West Clare has 706 people in its queues – again a slight drop in a month – with 652 people in Ennistymon and 630 in Tulla’s office making up the remainder.

It comes as the number of recipients of the Pandemic Unemployment Payment in Clare is at its lowest level since Covid began at 3,537.

It means a total of 7,765 people are now claiming some form of unemployment benefit in this county – a fall of 50 percent in just four months.
