Environment Minister Confirms Moneypoint Will Close In 2025 As Planned

The Minister for Environment says Moneypoint power station will close in 2025 as planned.

It follows suggests last month that the lifespan of the West Clare facility could have been pushed out as far as 2030 due to increased energy demand nationwide.

Concerns have been raised in the Dail by Clare Independent TD Michael McNamara that Ireland may end up importing coal-generated electricity after Moneypoint closes its doors.

Minister Eamon Ryan says while the West Clare plant will continue to provide backup power for now, it will cease operations in four years’ time.
