Ennis Retailer Closing Shop After 40 Years Claims Pedestrianisation Hugely Impacted Business

An Ennis retailer who is permanently closing her shop today after forty years claims pedestrianisation in the town had a “huge impact” on her business.

Mary Kelly has been running her newsagent and card shop on O’Connell Street since 1982 but will cease trading today, one day shy of the store’s fortieth anniversary.

She says the pandemic “changed everything”, with “certain difficulties” over the past two years behind her decision to close, including staffing.
