Ennis Economist Claims Consumers Are Right To Be Cautious Ahead Of Brexit

An Ennis economist says consumers are right to err on the side of caution, ahead of what could be a “serious bang” for the economy with Brexit on the horizon.

A report by KBC Bank has found that consumer confidence in the Irish economy is at a six-year low.

The index has found that it’s a sharp drop in confidence compared to just a month previous, with Brexit, the jobs market and spending power the main worries among consumers.

Dr Micheál Collins, who is an Assistant Professor of Social Policy in UCD, says the actions of the Irish government in the coming weeks could shed more light on the situation.
