Council Submits Plans For Inis Cealtra Visitor Centre Development

The local authority has submitted plans for the development of the Inis Cealtra visitor centre in East Clare.

It’s envisaged the Old Rectory building overlooking Mountshannon Harbour and Lough Derg will progress into a mainland facility to attract tourists to the east of the county.

The island is currently on the UNESCO World Heritage site tentative list as an Early Medieval Monastic site, and is referred to locally as ‘the jewel of Lough Derg’.
