30% Drop In Clare’s Live Register Figures On This Time Last Year

The number of people on the Live Register in Clare has dropped by over 30% on this time last year.

The latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show that 3,783 people were claiming unemployment benefit at the end of October.

In October of last year, 5,176 people in Clare were claiming some form of unemployment benefit.

One year later and the county has recorded a drop of almost 1,400 people on it’s live register.

The numbers in receipt of the benefit only increased marginally in Clare – by 73 – in comparison to the numbers claiming in September.

Ennistymon recorded the largest jump in the number of claimants with 30 more people receiving the payment in comparison to the month previous.

West and East Clare social welfare offices also saw a rise in the number of people signing on – with 657 on the register from Kilrush and 554 from Tulla.

Ennis was the only area which recorded a drop in the number of people accessing an unemployment payment – with six fewer people availing of the support.
