179 new jobs were created and supported in Clare last year by this county’s Local Enterprise Office.

New figures show they’re among more than 5,500 posts filled nationwide as a result of LEO support in 2020.

2020 has been described as a ‘challenging year’ by Clare’s Local Enterprise Office as it’s announced its annual results for a year dominated by the COVID-19 pandemic.

Despite that, 179 new jobs with LEO assistance were created in this county, though Clare posted an overall net job loss of 55 in the same timeframe.

There’s evidence of more people across the Banner turning to education, with a 235 percent increase in training participants here – more than double the national average.

Mentoring support to businesses in Clare increased by 75 percent.

400 businesses here were approved for online trading vouchers last year, largely to help them conduct their business virtually as the pandemic took hold.

More than €650,000 in funding was supplied to 32 businesses across Clare for various forms of support last year, in what was a record year nationally for financial assistance provided by LEO’s nationwide.
