A leading economist has warned the government to avoid short-term tax breaks for developers, which he fears could fuel another property bubble in Ireland.

The Irish Independent reports that the Finance Minister will announce a tax discount for builders in next week's budget, if they begin building within 18 months of receiving planning permission.
The move is aimed at increasing supply in areas like Dublin, but Trinity College professor Ronan Lyons has called for a focus on measures to reduce the cost of building instead.
He's published a report for Daft.ie which shows asking prices here are stagnant, despite rises elsewhere.
