Pupils at Tuamgrany Primary School were the number one nationwide in nationwide battery recycling contest, which was organised by the European Recycling Platform.

The challenge was to recycle a million batteries in 2011 and the students in East Clare collected an equivalent of 230 AA batteries each.

Mayor Pat Hayes has presented the school with a trophy for their efforts while the pupils also received a 250 euro book voucher.
