An East Clare lake is set to trial water quality protection and improvement measures.
Lough Graney is one of six catchments included in a project that will examine measures to reverse the deterioration of these rivers and streams.
The Framework of Measures and Best Practice Guidance for High Status Objective Water Bodies will also benefit landowners and foresters though a results-based payment scheme.
The €20 million EU-funded project will be managed by the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage.
The scheme will also include the Shournagh and the Awbeg in Cork, the Island River in Galway, the Avonmore in Wicklow, and the Sheen in Kerry.
