An East Clare Councillor is hopeful the Holy Island visitor centre could be open before the end of next summer.
Newly announced rural regeneration funding will see nearly €7.5m shared between two key projects in Clare, with almost €4 million set aside to develop the tourist centre in Mountshannon and over 3.5m allocated to the Kilrush Maritime Training Centre.
Clare County Council will also pledge €1m toward the Mountshannon venture and €700,000 to the West Clare project.
Fine Gael Councillor from Whitegate, Pat Burke has been telling Clare FM’s Rebecca O’Sullivan that this funding is a major step towards boosting tourism in East Clare.
