Clare County Council is set to benefit from a €9,000 funding boost aiming to increase the role of women and diverse groups
in local government.
The allocation has been announced today by Minister of State Alan Dillon as part of an over €192,000 fund being made available to the 31 local authorities nationwide.
In June, a record 681 female candidates stood for local election, while the number of migrant candidates almost doubled and the latest funding will go to independent groups, political parties and NGOs for research and training purposes.
So far, seven female candidates have declared in the Clare constituency for the impending General Election, which is already a new record for the county.
