€6.1m Funding Allocation Falls Short Of What’s Needed By Shannon Airport – McNamara

Clare’s Independent TD says a 6.1 million euro funding boost for Shannon airport falls short of what’s needed by the airport in the short term.

The one-off payment was signed off on by cabinet last night and will go towards the completion of a project to upgrade baggage screening infrastructure in the airport.

The works need to be completed by September to meet more stringent EU security rules, but Shannon has pointed out that the investment won’t generate any commercial return.

Scarriff Deputy Michael McNamara has welcomed the funding, but he’s been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that more needs to be done by Government to ensure that Shannon has a level playing field.
