€500 A Day Spent On Defence Forces Security Boost At Shannon Airport

The government has spent nearly 500 euro every day this year on providing the Defence Forces to boost security at Shannon Airport.

However, the Defence Minister says this amount is falling.

Minister Simon Coveney has told the Dáil that the money is being spent so as to ensure that people don't illegally enter the airport seeking to damage planes.

The Irish Defence Forces provide assistance at Shannon when requested by Gardáí, and 760 thousand euro has been spent on this since the beginning of 2012.
