€5 Million Funding Announced For Third Level Institutions

Over €5 million in funding has been announced for capital works and equipment upgrades at the region’s third level institutions.

It’s part of a 25 million euro package for higher education institutions and will help in part to offset the costs of upgrading facilities in the time of COVID-19.

At GMIT, the funding will allow of the upgrading and refurbishing of existing facilities, including equipment, while LIT says it will help address their most urgent infrastructural requirements, including ICT equipment and building works.

€1.75 million is to be spent at NUI Galway, along with a further €1.35 million in UL.

The money is in addition to a €168 million package of COVID-19-related supports for colleges announced last month.
