Clare has submitted the fifth-highest number of applications for the Vacant Property Refurbishment Scheme in the country.
New figures show grants of over €5.5m have been paid out in this county to date.
Since the inception of the Vacant Property Refurbishment Scheme in June 2022, 548 applications have been submitted to Clare County Council, the sixth-highest total nationwide.
So far, 366 applications or two-thirds of the total have been approved and just 6% have been rejected, with the remainder still being processed.
96 grants have so far been paid out in Clare following the completion of works, to a value of €5,532,006, which is the fifth-highest amount in the country.
Under the scheme €50,000 is available to successful applicants to renovate a vacant property, rising to €70,000 for a derelict building.
The grant is only paid out after works are finished, for which there is a thirteen-month window.
Clare County Council claims to have approved over €21m worth of payments under the scheme so far, including 122 applications in West Clare, 69 in North Clare, 67 in East Clare, 55 in the Ennis Electoral area and 37 in the Shannon LEA.
