A feasability study has found that nearly four million euro is required for coastal protection works in one Clare community that was among the hardest hit during last winter's storms.
Around a dozen homes were damaged at Clohaninchy near Quilty in January of last year, and since then local residents have fought a campaign for protection works to minimise the chance of a repeat.
200,000 euro was advanced for a study, which has now been completed, and the OPW is being told that nearly four million euro is needed to protect a total of 16 homes there.
Michael Neenan of the Clohaninchy/Seafield Action Group is now hoping that promises regarding the necessary funding will be kept.
