Clare County Council has received a major funding boost for the acquisition of a mobile library.
The local authority has been awarded €202,500 by the Department of Community and Rural Development towards the cost of the vehicle which is expected to come in at €270,000.
Mobile libraries have already been rolled out in urban centres nationwide such as Cork City and involve vehicles travelling to different areas of a county and providing a platform for residents to withdraw books and read in communities without libraries.
Today’s funding announcement comes as part of a €25m funding allocation for public libraries nationwide.
