Minister Simon Coveney revealed these figures when answering a written question from Independent TD Clare Daly.

She, along with fellow TD Mick Wallace, was convicted this year of having breached bylaws at Shannon Airport after they'd been found in an unauthorized zone.

This incursion into an unauthorized zone is one of a number of incidents where perimeters have been breached by anti-war protestors over recent years.

The ongoing use of Shannon by the American military has seen Defence Forces personnel become a regular sight there, as they are often called in to assist Gardaí.

This has occured on 237 occasions between January and September, an average of around 6 times each week, and the total costs incurred is just over 135 thousand euro.

Minister Coveney says the reason for each decision to seek support is an operational matter for An Garda Síochana.
