10 million euro in funding has been made available to both Shannon and Cork airports as part of the budget for 2021.

The funding, which was alluded to by Tanaiste Leo Varadkar when speaking to Clare FM last week, comes as part of a support package for the aviation sector to deal with the fallout of the Covid-19 pandemic.

It comes following a Dáil’ Transport Committee hearing last week which heard that Shannon Group’s revenue is down by €1.3m each and every week since March and amid threats that Ryanair may close it’s base there for the winter period.
