Seven former Clare Oireachtas members have shared over €1.8 million in pension payments over the past four years.
Politicians' pension entitlements are based on their length of service, while additional monies are paid to certain office holders such as Taoisigh and Ministers.
An RTE analysis of Oireachtas pension payments from 2011 to 2014 has found the highest earner in Clare in that time to be former Fianna Fáil representative Sile de Valera, who received over €405,000.
Fellow former Fianna Fáil Minister Tony Killeen has been paid €372,000 since he left the Dáil in 2011, a figure which includes termination payments, while party colleague Brendan Daly follows next on €367,000.
Ex-Fine Gael Junior Minister Donal Carey received just under €260,000 while long-serving former Fianna Fáil Senator Tras Honan received just under €200,000.
Former Fine Gael TD Madeline Taylor-Quinn was paid €173,000 while former Labour TD Dr. Moosajee Bhamjee was paid €42,600 over the four year period.
The figures don't reflect any pension payments that may have been returned to the State, while the pension levy is paid and normal tax arrangements apply.
In all, €65 million has been paid to more than 350 former politicians over the past four years, with former Taoisigh Bertie Ahern and Brian Cowen the highest paid.
