Sporting facilities in Clare are set to benefit from a significant chunk of a multi-million euro government funding boost announced today.
It comes as the Department of Community and Rural Development has ringfenced over €16m for 189 projects nationwide.
Twenty projects in Clare will benefit in total, with a total overall investment of €1.7m, meaning 10% of the national funding will go towards works in this county.
The biggest local beneficiaries will be the communities of Bellharbour and Lahinch, who have each been allocated €165,000 for the development of a new community building and refurbishments to Lahinch Playground respectively.
Active Ennis Tim Smythe will receive €140,000 for the resurfacing of the running track, with €125,000 going to Lisdoonvarna Fáilte for the Twin Well’s Landscaping Project.
St. Joseph’s National School in Miltown Malbay will now develop an outdoor classroom and sensory garden with an investment to the tune of €120,000.
The Kilrush Town Team will also be celebrating today as its secured €85,000 to upgrade Cappa Playground.
Tulla Courthouse will receive €70,000 for upgrades, while Ballyvaughan Community Development and Scariff Bay Community Radio will benefit from investments of €91,000 and €59,000 respectively.
Among the sporting organisations to benefit from today’s announcement are Clarecastle GAA, Kilmaley GAA, Wolfetones Na Sionna GAA, The Banner GAA in Ennis, Newmarket Celtic and St.Senan’s Rugby Club, Shannon Swimming and Leisure Centre, Clare Cricket Group and the Ballina Killaloe Community Sports Company.
Each group will receive between €50,000 and €80,000.
