Parnell Street in Ennis and surrounding bow-ways are to undergo a complete transformation following the announcement of 1.4 million euro in government funding.

Plans have already been drawn up by Clare County Council for the project following extensive consultation with traders in the area – it will proceed to part 8 planning next week, with works to begin soon after.

The funding, provided under the Urban Regeneration and Development Fund also sees a further 189,000 euro allocated towards revitalising Barack Street, and a share of a 2.7 million euro fund for the Shannon Venue in Shannon Town.

30% of the businesses on Parnell Street are currently vacant and it’s hoped the regeneration of the area will encourage more occupancy, while preserving the street’s unique heritage.

Announcing the funding today, Clare’s Junior Minister at the Department of Jobs, Pat Breen has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that the funding will have a big impact.
