One of the country’s best known pubs Durty Nellys in Bunratty is opposing plans for a commercial development on the site of the burned down Avoca store.
Last month Zest – the retail division of catering firm EFG lodged plans with Clare County Council for a restaurant, café and foodhall at the premises – which it says will result in 40 permanent jobs
The documents state that the proposed design of the development derives its form and character from buildings in the rural landscape.
However the objection lodged on behalf of Maurice Walsh of Durty Nellys states the Zest proposal will severely detract from the setting and character of Bunratty, a national monument and Bunratty bridge – because of its uncompromising modern design
A council decision is due next month
