Dublin Man Appears In Court Charged With Defilement of Co. Clare Teen

A Dublin man has appeared in court, charged with the defilement of a 16 year old Co Clare girl on two occasions last year.

The 42 year-old man – who cannot be named for legal reasons – appeared at Ennis District Court in connection with having alleged under-age sex with the girl at hotels in Limerick and Galway on two dates in June and August last year.

A Book of Evidence is being prepared in the case of the 42 year-old man – who cannot be named for legal reasons.

He appeared before Ennis District Court yesterday, charged in connection with having alleged under-age sex with a girl at a Limerick Hotel on June 17th last year and at a Galway hotel on August 26th 2014 contrary to Section 3 of the Criminal Law Sexual Offences Act.

Those found guilty of the charge are liable to be sentenced to up to five years in jail and those in authority who are found guilty face up to 10 years in jail.

The man is also accused of sexual exploitation of the girl at a Co. Clare hotel on May 9th 2014.

Solicitor, Jane O’Neill represented the accused yesterday and told Judge Patrick Durcan that there is no application for legal aid in the case.

The court was told that the accused made 'no reply' when charged, and he was remanded to re-appear in court on January 13th.
