There are some areas where an increase has been recorded, however, including drink driving.

In the Clare Garda Division, 52 people were caught driving over the influence between April and June of this year. That figure has only been exceeded during one three-month period once in the past four years.

There were 64 burglaries, which is the highest level seen in nearly two years, and that’s the same for drugs offences too.

Well over half of those related to people who were charged with the possession of drugs for personal use.

There were also 123 incidents of criminal damage to property during the three-month period, which marks an increase of 50% on the previous quarter and is the highest level seen here since 2013.
