According to the CSO, the amount of homes that received the top grade for Building Energy Rating – an indication of the energy performance of a dwelling – has dropped by 56%.

In 2024, the figures show 254 homes audited received an A grade for BER while just 31 of these achieved an A1 rating – the upper threshold of this grade.

This represents a 56% decrease from the 2023 figure of 581, while the number of A1 graded properties has fallen with 59 properties recorded in 2023 – 28 more than this year.

The stark contrast in the figures is further highlighted in the audit by the statistic that in 2023, Clare had 161 more homes that held an A2 grade than the total number of A grade homes in 2024, with 329 A2 homes in 2023.

The most common grade received by homes in the audit was a C, with 424 homes achieving this, remaining consistent with last years figures.
