Units of Clare County Fire and Rescue Service from Shannon station responded to the incident along with the National Ambulance Service and Gardaí.

Fire crews were also mobilised from Ennis but were stood down when it was confirmed that there were no hazardous materials involved and that the incident wasn’t as serious as first reported.

A National Ambulance Service rapid response advanced paramedic unit responded to the incident followed soon afterward by an ambulance. Both drivers were assessed at the scene but were found to be uninjured.

A section of road was closed while fire crews worked to clear a hazard. Crews spent some time treating the spillage with dispersant and had to use specialist equipment to separate the two vans which had become locked together following the collision.

One vehicle could be driven away from the scene while the second had to be recovered by tow truck.

The road was fully reopened at midday.
