The Taliban have claimed responsibility for the overnight attacks, which included an explosion in a truck in a civilian area and a suicide bombing on a police academy.
According to news agency Reuters, the Afghan war between the Western-backed government and the Taliban has intensified since a NATO mission in the region ended last year and most foreign troops were withdrawn.
