Plans for a one billion euro investment in the Mid West, which could see up to 1,000 jobs created, have been dealt a significant blow.

Shannon LNG are seeking to construct a combined heat and power plant on a site at Ballylongford, Co. Kerry, but warn the project could be scuppered by plans to levy them with a tariff to pay for gas interconnectors it would not use.
Clare Councillors had called on the government to ‘urgently intervene’, but the regulator has now decided that the company WILL be charged.
The exact charge will not be determined until October 2014, after a consultation process.
The company says the decision lacks the certainty it needs to ‘facilitate a final investment decision.’
