The ribbon will be cut to mark the opening of a west Clare town’s newest amenity this weekend.
Doonbeg Tidy Towns will host the official opening of the town’s new Fair Green sensory garden.
The Fair Green has been transformed into a coastal landscape that mirrors Doonbeg’s marine environment.
Made possible by funding from the Department of Rural and Community Development and the CLÁR programme, which supports small-scale infrastructural projects, the design features a coastal landscape, with boulders arranged to form a wave and sea grass portraying the dunes and coastline.
Flowers grown in bogs within the locality have also been placed to provide sensory engagement, while also preserving the connection of the garden with the Fair Green.
Chairperson of Doonbeg Tidy Towns, Jennie Drysdale says maintaining a historical link to the town in the sensory garden was central to the project.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony gets underway at 11 o’clock tomorrow morning, led by former councillor Cillian Murphy, while local historian and James Griffin will share the history behind the Fair Green.
Tommy Comerford, who is the founding member of Doonbeg Tidy Towns, will also outline work carried out by the committee in order to bring this project to fruition.
Comerford believes this project, along with other Tidy Towns initiatives, instils a great pride of place in local communities.
