Over six thousand people have signed a petition calling for the re-designation of Doolin Old Pier as an official bathing spot.

The old pier and surrounding area have been utilised by the local community for health and recreation activities since Victorian times and people living locally say numbers using the popular facility are continuing to rise.

A ‘Call to Action’ community day at the pier earlier this month, which attracted hundreds of aqua orientated enthusiasts to the north Clare pier.

The petition has been delivered to Clare County Council and local resident Leigh O’Connell says she’s hopeful it will bring about a successful result.
