Doolin Pier Development gets green light

The long awaited development of Doolin Pier has finally been given the all clear.

An Bord Pleanala has upheld Clare County Council’s decision to grant planning permission for the new 5 million euro pier in North Clare.

The project was beset by delays over the years and faced a number of objections from surfing groups, concerned over the impact it would have on the world famous waves in Doolin.

Clare County Council were then required to carry out an Environmental Impact Statement while An Bord Pleanala held an oral hearing on the development last year.

Today’s decision by the appeals board has been broadly welcomed by council officials, public representatives as well as Doolin Coastguard.

Once the tendering process is complete, the project is expected to take up to 18 months to complete and should be in place in early 2015.
